GIVEAWAY: Celebrate Anastasia's 111th Birthday

Even now in 2012, one of the greatest mysteries has been the fate of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov of Russia, the last of four daughters born to the Tsar Nikolas and his wife Alexandra. After the tragic execution of the Russian Royal family in1918, officials were never able to recover the remains of Anastasia. Tales of her supposed escape from Russia have gripped thousands for decades, fueling speculation that a daughter of Russia's last sovereign ruler survived the revolution that destroyed her immediate family.

June 18th marks what would be the 111th birthday of Her Imperial Highness Anastasia Romanov. In honor of the lost Duchess, Sourcebooks is giving away one copy of The Last Romanov by Dora Levy Mossanen!

"...An engrossing historical drama that blends mystery and memory together to tell a sprawling story...the research that went into this book helped create a vast and meticulous world that captures the imagination and lingers long after the pages ceased to turn."
~ Bridget, The Romance Reviews

IN A TIME OF RASPUTIN'S MAGIC AND ROMANOV MYSTERY, A YOUNG GIRL FINDS HERSELF AT THE HEART OF THE ROYAL FAMILY

If only she can find the heir, maybe she can put together the broken pieces of her own past-maybe she can hold on to the love she found. Bursting to life with the rich and glorious marvels of Imperial Russia, The Last Romanov is a magical tale of second chances and royal blood.

I hate to say this, but I think Anastasia was killed. However it would be lovely to think she somehow got away and spent the rest of her life as a commoner, but alive none the less.

It was a very sad and vicious thing that happened to that family. Unfortunately, politics, was and continues to be, a very dangerous thing. As much as the romantic in me would like to believe that she survived, sadly I think she perished with the rest of her family.

While I too think she was killed along with the rest of here family, in my heart I have always wanted to believe servants loyal to the family found her injured and hide her away.

As much as I would like to live in a fairytale and believe that the truth was revealed in the FOX animated movie. I simply cannot, I believe Anastasia survived and lived in abject poverty and obscurity because no one truly believed her.

My logical mind wants to say she was killed with the rest of her family but my heart wants to say that she survived and was able to have her HEA. (afterall, I'm a romance reader :)

It would be nice to believe she escaped but she probably died with the rest of her family.

I've been fascinated with the Romanovs and Anastasia since I was a little girl. I'd love to believe she managed to escape, but I don't think that happened. Still, one could always hope...

I truly believe that there were servants loyal to the family and that one took Anastasia away to be raised with their own family. It would serve two purposes

1) There would be no blood and guilt on the hands of the servant who took her.

2) For one of the Romanovs to be raised a peasant would be a fitting end and would lesson the guilt of the servant who was also loyal to the revolution.

Perhaps her descendants are out there in the world making our world a better place.

It would be wonderful to dream that somehow Anastasia escaped the fate of her family, but I doubt it happened. Even so, I'd like to think a loving governess was able to spirit her away from the madness and that she was able to live a normal life. The story of the Romanovs is one of the saddest in 20th century history.

I have always believed that she got away with the help of a few loyalists. I think she lived a quiet, private life as far from her childhood home as she could get. I just can't believe she died with her family. GFC follower - jepeb68

Unfortunately, I think she was killed.

I know unless there is a body turned up we will never know what happened. But I like to think she escaped and was able to live a secret life and loved and had a family. I always wished those movies and such had been true and she had really met her grand mother and regained the family she lost. But I know that didn't happen. But I grew up always wondering and dreamed she lived and loved at some point.

I think she was aided by people working in the palace and escaped. She then lived a secret life and died a very peaceful death as an old woman. I follow via email

What a fascinating scenario to consider...I believe that Anastasia somehow survived the rest of her poor family's fate. Somehow, she wasn't mortally wounded and escaped into a life that she could live without being known...
Many thanks, Cindi

I fell in love with the story when I first saw Anastsia (the cartoon version) about 12 years ago. Since then I have read the stories I could find and followed the imposters. I believe the whole family was killed that terrible night and that her bones just haven't been found. How exciting it would have been if she had actually lived through the terror and stayed in hiding.

I honestly think that when they were running away to where they were going she got separated and lost. With so much going on, and the hatred towards the royals, I think she kept quiet about her identity. But when people started pretending to be her, I think she got the courage to finally admit it, but was denied who she actually was.

Most likely she died with her family. She was about 7 years old at the time of her family's deaths so if she survived she must have had some memories of her life as a royal. I believe she would never have revealed herself if she lived in Russia because of fear of the communists.

90% of me believes she died with the rest of her family. But her remains were the only ones not found so there's my 10% of believing she was spirited away and hidden. I wouldn't doubt that she did forget her past due to the trauma of that day, or the fear of being found out and dying kept the truth from EVER being told.

Considering the circumstances of the Romanovs captivity, I believe that Anastasia was killed with the rest of her family. It would be too dangerous to let any of them survive.

I think she may have escaped but possibly was never truly aware of who she was and her importance. She lived a long life just as a commoner even knowing about the missing princess but never knowing she was it. Possibly having a family of her own that doesn't know of their linage.

thank you for the chance at such a great giveaway and debate. i think a lot of times i am about 50-50. because her body was the only one not found i tend to think that she escaped but it also seems unlikely that the revolutionists would allow any of them to survive. what i Like to think happened is that she was found injured by a sympathtic servant or even soldier that sent her away with her nanny or someone that could be trusted to keep her secret. she was then raised to be afraid to reveal who she really was until years later. by then everyone wanted to believe she was an imposter.

I wish deeply that she got away, but everything points in the direction of her death. A very sad and painful end that I wish could have ended better for that family.
