The Dark Side aims to shed light on that deep, dark, mysterious side of an author, a face that she rarely, if ever, shows to the public. What secret is she hiding behind that enigmatic smile on her official photo (if any)? what juicy tidbit is she keeping from the world? What are some of the things that she liked, things we would never know, because it's not part of her bio?
Today, we have with us MARI CARR, author of REKINDLED, who regaled us in a previous post with some fun facts about her book and an exclusive excerpt.
Remember, think dark, dark, dark...
Are you afraid of the dark? Why or why not?
Actually, I'm not afraid of the dark. I'm a country girl, born and bred. If you've ever lived in the woods, you know that when the lights go out, you're hard-pressed to see your hand in front of your face. Growing up in that environment definitely cured me of any darkness fears I might have had. Now--tight spaces is another story. I'm extremely claustrophobic!
What television series featuring dark themes did you enjoy the most? Why?
My all-time favorite television show was X-Files. I absolutely loved the concept behind the series as well as the chemistry between Mulder and Scully. I like the idea that there is life out there somewhere!
Who is your favorite dark character? Why?
Voldemort! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and I think JK Rowling created the epitome of a true villain. There is absolutely nothing forgivable about him. He's just one seriously bad dude!
How did you overcome a particular dark time in your life?
Actually, I was going through a very stressful time at work and writing is what saved me. I became a bit of an insomniac for a couple of years. During the long nights when I couldn't sleep, I started writing...and writing...and writing. Through my words and my stories, I was able to relax and begin to put a lot of things into perspective.
What dark-themed books do you enjoy and would recommend? Why?
I don't read a lot of dark-themed books because I will admit it--I'm a scaredy cat! However, I read Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King for a reading group once and I absolutely loved it! It scared the bejeebies out of me, but it's a fantastic story.

We've been talking about starting The X Files from the beginning again. I think most seasons are available to watch instantly on Netflix, so we'll probably bump that up in our queue. There were a lot of episodes we only saw once, and I think doing them marathon-style would really be fun.

Great interview! Isn't it interesting how a dark time can lead to a wonderful change in your life? I'm glad you decided to start writing during those sleepless nights--some great books were the result! I loved the X-files too, but my new Netflix passion is Firefly. Sooo fun!

I just got a new Kindle too. I bought it because it hold more books and the charge last for a month. Love it so far and it is lighter then the first one.
